The O Bass is a stripped-back, retro-styled bass guitar with a huge voice. Designed in-house by Orange, it takes inspiration from classic single-pickup designs of the 60s, but reimagined with custom pickup placement and a sleek, lightweight body for modern players. Plug it in and you’ll get anything from smooth Motown warmth to bright, aggressive punk grit, just by adjusting your playing dynamics and tone. With its distinct offset body, premium hardware, and exceptional feel straight out of the case, the O Bass is an all-rounder with attitude, ideal for bassists who want character and simplicity in one.

In More Detail

The O Bass brings together vintage character and modern performance in a way only Orange can. Its single split-coil pickup is positioned closer to the bridge than usual, giving it a tighter low end and a distinctive midrange growl, a voicing that stands out on stage or in the recorded mix. Dial back the tone for smooth, rounded lines or open it up for punch and clarity. The offset body is balanced and lightweight, perfect for long sessions, and the slim, satin-finished neck offers fast, comfortable playability.

From soul to stoner rock, the O Bass delivers a versatile range of tones from a simple, intuitive layout. Whether you're recording, gigging, or just playing for fun, it’s a bass that feels great, sounds bigger than it looks, and always cuts through. Available in Orange, Black, or Glenn Hughes Signature Purple (which upgrades the standard O Bass with a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 pickup and chequerboard binding), all models come with padded Orange gig bag

Designed in-house

Unlike most guitars in its class, the O Bass was designed entirely in-house by Orange’s technical team. That means every detail, from the pickup voice to the feel of the neck, has been thought through with a player-first mindset by some of the most experienced engineers in the business. It’s not just a rebranded import: it’s a bass guitar that carries Orange DNA in its design, sound, and build quality. The result is something genuinely original: a back-to-basics instrument that’s full of personality, yet engineered to be rock-solid on stage or in the studio.

Custom pickup positioning

The O Bass’s single split-coil pickup isn’t where you’d usually find it, and that’s the point. Positioned closer to the bridge than in a traditional P-Bass, it produces a more articulate low end and a growlier, more aggressive midrange. That makes it tighter in the mix, especially when playing with distortion or fuzz. It’s a subtle shift with a big impact, giving the O Bass a voice all of its own, and letting you find new sounds in a familiar layout.

Diverse tone options

Don’t be fooled by the single pickup and passive controls — the O Bass is anything but limited. Roll the tone down for vintage soul and reggae thump, or push it wide open for bright, attacking punk or indie lines. It responds beautifully to your playing dynamics too, offering expressive range without the need for extra knobs or circuits. Whether you play fingerstyle, pick, or slap, the O Bass gives you bags of usable tone with minimal fuss.
