Voltage selection

The voltage-selector switch and mains fuse are set at the factory for the country or region in which this Orange product is intended to be sold. To prevent serious damage to the product, ensure that the rated AC mains voltage indicated on the product’s rear panel agrees with the mains voltage from your AC mains inlet before connecting the IEC power cable.

If the product is to be used outside of the factory-set region, please ensure the voltage-selector switch (found on the rear or side panel) is set to the correct voltage for the new country/region and that the appropriate mains fuse is fitted in the pull-out fuse tray below the IEC mains input.

The correct mains fuse rating for the product is printed on the chassis (see “Rear Panel Features”). Use only the same type and rating as specified for the product. Be advised that different operating voltages require the use of different types of line cord and attachment plugs. If you are unsure, please contact your Orange dealer.

Before using your amplifier

Always ensure the amp’s volume control(s) are set to zero before switching on the power to the amplifier. To prevent hum and electrical noise, operate your amplifier and instruments as far away from other electronic devices (especially fluorescent and neon lamps) as possible, as devices such as these generate extremely high levels of electronic noise.

Speaker output connections

  1. Make sure the correct speaker is connected at all times during operation.
  2. Do not connect to a speaker load which is less than 8 Ohms in total.
  3. Always connect to a cabinet of an appropriate power rating/handling.
  4. Never use two cabinets of different/mismatched impedance.
  5. Only connect speakers using a quality dedicated speaker cable. Never use an instrument cable.
  6. Never connect headphones to the speaker outputs.

Heads

For one 16 Ohm cabinet — Use the 16 Ω speaker jack socket (rear panel).

For two 16 Ohm cabinets — Use both the 8 Ω speaker jack sockets (rear panel).

For one 8 Ohm cabinet — Use either of the 8 Ω speaker jack sockets (rear panel).

Combos

All Orange valve combos have an internal speaker load of 16 Ω and are connected to the amplifier’s 16 Ohm output at the factory. When using an extension cabinet, only ever connect a 16 Ω cabinet. To connect an extension cabinet to the combo, reconnect the internal speaker jack to either of the 8 Ohm speaker outputs, and connect a 16 Ohm extension cabinet to the other 8 Ohm speaker output. Ensure to reconnect the internal speaker to the 16 Ohm output when an extension cabinet is not attached.

Valves

When powering up, ensure the amplifier is set to the STBY position on the front panel for a minimum of two minutes prior to performance. This will prolong the life of the valves. The HT fuse(s) (rear panel) will blow in the event of output valve failure in order to protect the internal circuitry from damage. Orange recommends output valves are replaced in full matched sets. Orange models fitted with EL34 or 6550 valves will also benefit from a bias adjustment, which should only be undertaken by a qualified technician. When changing the HT fuse, gently push down on the fuse holder and turn anticlockwise to release the fuse.

Input

1. Power

Turns on the mains power to the amp. The jewel light will illuminate when the mains switch is set to on. The output switch should be set to standby prior to performance (refer to “Before using your amplifier”).

2. Standby/Output selector

Selects between full power, standby and half power modes. Rockerverb 50: 50 Watts (full)/25 Watts (half); Rockerverb 100: See Four/two output valves selector (rear).

3. Channel selector

Switches between clean and dirty channels. This can be switched remotely via a latching footswitch (rear panel). When using a footswitch, the channel selector must be set to dirty.

4. Attenuator

The attenuator control is located after the amp’s volume controls. Increasing the amp’s volume controls will drive the output stage, but the attenuator control allows the output volume level to be reduced. Increasing the attenuator reduces the overall volume (i.e., increases the level of attenuation). Set to zero, the attenuator has no effect. The attenuator can be defeated remotely via a latching footswitch (rear panel), which means the output level will increase to where the volume controls for each channel are set. This can be used to achieve a “clean boost” in live settings.

5. Reverb

Adjusts the reverb level for both channels. The reverb can be engaged/defeated using a latching footswitch (rear panel).

6. Dirty channel volume

Adjusts the volume level for the dirty channel. This can be balanced with the attenuator control to reduce the overall output volume level. Note: with the gain set to zero there is no sound from the dirty channel.

7. Dirty channel treble

Adjusts the high-end response of the dirty channel.

8. Dirty channel mid-range

Adjusts the mid-range response of the dirty channel.

9. Dirty channel bass

Adjusts the bass response of the dirty channel.

10. Dirty channel gain

Adjusts the gain level on the dirty channel. Four stages of gain are available for a wide range of tones, from mild overdrive through to heavy distortion. Lower gain settings may require an increase in volume to compensate.

11. Clean channel treble

Adjusts the high-end response of the clean channel.

12. Clean channel bass

Adjusts the low-end response of the clean channel.

13. Clean channel volume

Adjusts the volume level for the clean channel. This volume control is a classic “non-master” volume with overdrive/breakup achieved at higher settings. This can be balanced with the attenuator control to reduce the overall output volume level.

14. Input

Use a quality shielded instrument cable to connect your instrument to the input jack socket.

Voltage selector

1. Four/two output valves (Rockerverb 100 only)

100 Watts: Full power with four output valves; 70 Watts: Half power with four output valves; 50 Watts: Full power with two output valves; 30 Watts: Half power with two output valves. Whether using two or four valves, the impedance always matches what is displayed on the speaker jack sockets.

2. Speaker outputs

Refer to “Before Using Your Amplifier” for full speaker cabinet options. Ensure the correct speaker load is connected at all time during operation. If you are unsure, please contact your Orange dealer.

3. Attenuator footswitch

Connect a latching footswitch (e.g., FS-1 or fS-2) to remotely defeat/engage the attenuator control. This works well for lead boosts where extra volume is required.

4. Reverb footswitch

Connect a latching footswitch (e.g., FS-1 or fS-2) to remotely defeat/engage the reverb control.

5. Channel footswitch

Connect a latching footswitch (e.g., FS-1 or fS-2) to switch between channels remotely. The channel selector must be set to the dirty channel in order for the footswitch to function.

6. Effects loop

Use the effects loop to connect external effects processors/pedals between the amp’s preamp and output stages. Connect the Send socket to the input of external effects, and the Return socket to their outputs.

7. HT fuse

This fuse will blow in the event of output valve failure. Replace this fuse only with the exact type and rating as printed on the chassis.

8. AC mains input and mains fuse

Refer to “Before Using Your Amplifier“. Connect the supplied IEC cable to the AC mains input. Ensure the Power switch is set to OFF before connecting the IEC cable. The mains fuse is located in the pull-out tray underneath the AC mains input. If the mains fuse blows, replace only with the exact type and rating as printed on the chassis. If the mains fuse continues to blow, contact your Orange dealer.

9. Voltage selector switch

Important! This is factory set for the region in which the amplifier is intended to be sold. Refer to “Before Using Your Amplifier“. Do not switch the selector without first changing the mains fuse for the region.
