Orange Amplification are delighted to welcome ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons as an Ambassador for the Orange Bax Bangeetar pedal. He has recently discovered Orange’s new British made guitar and bass Pre-EQ pedal and said ‘Lovin’ this thing!! It’s revealed itself as a true tone chameleon ….. super versatile.’

Billy Gibbons is best known as the guitarist and lead singer with the American Rock band ZZ Top, which he formed in the late sixties with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. They remain one of the very few major recording groups to have retained the same line up for more than 45 years. ZZ Top were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with four of their albums certified gold, three as platinum and two as multi-platinum. Their songs have become classic and hard rock staples.

As a guitarist, Billy Gibbons is a respected blues scholar with an instinctive touch. His legendary mastery of his instrument is something many guitarists spend a lifetime achieving.  Regarded as one of rock’s leading tone-meisters, Billy honed signature sound, drawn from a deep knowledge of blues / rock traditions, is full of catchy, meaty riffs and sublime solos. He is not known for using pedals and effects so Orange is particularly proud that he has chosen to use the Bax Bangeetar, both on stage and in the studio.

The Orange Bax Bangeetar was the company’s first foray into the pedal market in more than forty years. Handmade in the Orange Custom Shop, England, the pedal feels and behaves like an Orange amp, delivering natural break-up, without any hint of stifling compression. The Bax Bangeetar has a huge dynamic range producing classic Orange crunch and vintage overdrive at moderate gain settings, increase the drive levels to yield a wealth of outrageous modern tones with insane amounts of distortion on offer. It has a unique flexible gain structure, giving it extensive tweaking capabilities. With the Baxandall EQ and full parametric mid controls allowing complete command over a broad frequency range its response is almost infinite.

Orange has redesigned their entire entry-level bass combo range with the introduction of the Orange Crush Bass Series. Key upgrades include a parametric EQ circuit across the series, inspired by the Orange 4 Stroke series bass amps, allowing bassists to fine tune these amps to any musical style with much greater control. Their analogue circuitry, newly-designed speakers and ported cabinetry ensure all three of these elegant combos deliver bold and punchy lows. In addition to a handy onboard tuner, the Headphone output on all models features CabSim filtering to emulate the response of Orange’s stage-ready OBC bass cabinets – optimised for direct recording or silent practice. The Crush Bass 50 and 100 are a nod to Orange’s OB1 Series amps with their unique interactive Gain and Blend controls. These create enormous ‘bi-amp’ style tones by adding harmonics and variable levels of grit to the core bass sound, perfect for earthy 70s vintage tones and savage distorted anarchy without losing the important low end.

The Crush Bass 25 (RRP £149) might be the smallest in the range, but its character is fat and composed with a surprising low end thump. Its highly responsive active EQ, with parametric mid control, allows bassists to dial in a huge range of sounds, making it the perfect miniature rig for players on which to hone their tone.

The Crush Bass 50, (RRP £229) combines the essentials of a portable practice rig with all the tone and features ordinarily reserved for the professionals. Also featuring an active parametric EQ, this 50 Watt rig produces warm modern cleans but is capable of much more besides, thanks to the amp’s gain and blend circuit. From vintage grind all the way up to full-on distorted mayhem, this footswitchable feature combined with the effects loop, adds limitless tonal possibilities.

The Crush Bass 100 (RRP £369) is seriously versatile in both sound and application with enough power for smaller venues. The high-end engineering techniques used in its design are key to its immensely forceful and detailed tone. The introduction of discrete components in the 100 Watt output stage, rather than common integrated ones, means the amp has additional levels of clarity across the entire sound spectrum. Coupled with all the functionality of the Crush Bass 50, the Crush Bass 100 also adds a balanced output for live use.

Theo-Ellis-Wolf-Alice-AD200B-MK3-OBC810-Authorized-2-1030x581Orange Amplification has a long history of finely designed, high quality bass amps and cabinets used by their world class Ambassadors including Geddy Lee (Rush), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Brent Hinds (Mastodon) and John McVie (Fleetwood Mac). They are proud to announce a number of new high profile Ambassadors joining their roster:

Grammy nominated Wolf Alice’s Theo Ellis (Orange AD200B MK3 Head & OBC810 Cabinet) says ‘It’s one of the only bass cabs that works perfectly in cohesion with all my fuzz and drives’. Sergio Vega (AD200B MK3 Head & OBC810 Cabinet) of the Deftones explains ‘because of the way I attack the bass the AD200B is perfect.’ Matt Dirito (OB1-500 Head & OBC410 Cabinet & Crush PiX CR50BXT Combo) of the larger than life Pop Evil was ‘blown away by the tone!’ and ‘can’t believe the clarity, volume and overall punch of the amp.’  Mika Hakki (OB1-500 Head & OBC810 Cabinet) of Swedish rockers Monolord explains ‘our music, being very low-tuned, slow and loud, needs amplifiers and cabinets that keep up with us. The OBC810 together with the OB1-500 really gives everything I want.’ Jake Figueroa of Crobot commented ‘The OB1 is a badass amp. Go to war with a battle stag of monstrous filthy tone or dial her back a bit for warm and crisp, clean runs. This amp is just as versatile as it is reliable. A work horse to the fullest extent.’

And it’s not just rock bands appreciating the Orange bass amps and cabs. Chuck Platt (AD200B MK3 Head) with punk band Good Riddance found ‘the overall tone I got was massive …. I was surprised how easy it was to dial in for my sound.’ Kelsey Gonzalez (OB1-500 Head & OBC410H Cabinet) with one of the hottest new names in rap music, Anderson Paak and the Free National, simply states ‘it’s that classic sound!’ Kelby Ray (OB1-500 Head & OBC810 Cabinet & Crush PiX CR100BXT Combo, AD200B MK3 Head) of country rockers The Cadillac Three feels ‘proud to bring the heavy lap steel and bass sounds … to life with Orange Amplification!’

Today, more and more contemporary bass players are plugging in and turning up Orange bass amps and cabs because they love the crisp, clean British tone, the really tight low-end, the massive punch, the versatile distortion and consistent performance.

Orange amps give bass players everything they need and nothing they don’t. Their great tone is a direct result of the ‘no bells and whistles’ design which gives the shortest possible signal path from bass to speaker. The wide choice of powerful cabinets is big on sound and can handle any size of gig, the studio or simple practice. Check out the whole range at https://orangeamps.com/bass-gear/.

Ask A Question To Be In With A Chance Of Winning A Bax Bangeetar Pedal

Orange Amplification has launched a new web series based on questions received on their YouTube channel entitled ‘How To Void Your Warranty!’

The series feature Orange’s in-house technician Rob Moss with cameos from Orange Staff including Technical Director, Adrian Emsley, trying out unusual uses of Orange gear derived from the questions posed by users on their YouTube channel. As Rob says: “We are doing this so you DON’T have to!” The videos are a response to the many questions that Orange often receive from customers and fans – notably ones that would void your warranty if you were to try them.

So far, the series has resulted in destroyed laptops, audio interfaces and headphones – with Orange predicting more carnage on the way as they demonstrate why you shouldn’t try answering these questions at home. The latest episode examines the question ‘can I plug my amp into my car AUX input for jamming on the go?’ To find out, Rob takes an Orange Bax Bangeetar Guitar Pre-EQ pedal and connects it to the AUX of a car stereo through the pedal’s CabSim out and powers it up. To discover what happens when he takes it out on the road watch the video here.

Viewers of the series can subscribe to the channel and pose their own questions in the videos comments area to be in with a chance of winning a Bax Bangeetar as well as getting their query answered.

Other questions posed and answered by Rob and the Orange Technical team include ‘what happens if I plug my amplifier speaker output directly into my interface?’ and ‘can I plug headphones into the speaker output of my amp?’

Orange will be releasing a new video in this series every Friday. What question would you like answered? Let the Orange Technicians try it out before you void your warranty. To find out more about Orange its products and their warranties please go to https://orangeamps.com

Orange Amplification would like to congratulate Ambassador Tom Petersson on being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members of the rock band Cheap Trick. The ceremony will take place on Friday 8th April 2016 at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York.
Tom Petersson is the founding bassist of the rock group Cheap Trick and the co-creator of the twelve string bass. He had the idea for the twelve string bass in 1973 and when friends started their own guitar company, he managed to persuade them to make him one. Cheap Trick release their first new album in 7 years, ‘Bang Zoom Crazy’, on the 1st April 2016, with Tom’s riffs and tones underpinning their signature sound. In an interview on the Orange Amps blog, Petersson says he first became aware of Orange after a trip to London with guitarist Rick Nielsen in 1968. At the original Orange retail shop they met founder Cliff Cooper who had just started making his own amplifiers. Tom currently uses an Orange AD50 Custom Shop guitar head running into a PPC4x12 cabinet and an AD200 MK3 head running into an OBC8x10 bass cabinet. Talking about the amps he said ‘I love Orange gear … I play it loud!’

Following the launch of the Bax Bangeetar, their first pedal in forty five years, Orange Amplification are introducing a new pair of guitar stompboxes for NAMM 2016; the Amp Detonator Buffered AB-Y and the Two Stroke Boost EQ.

Probably the smallest, active and fully functional, buffered AB-Y pedal on the market, the Amp Detonator is an elegant solution to the age-old problem of running two amps. It features two low noise linear buffered outputs, one with a custom designed isolating transformer, which has been meticulously engineered for transparency. Complete with phase correction, independent switches for A/B or both and a tri-colour LED, this compact switcher is the new standard for players running a dual amp rig.

The Two Stroke is Orange’s take on the essential ‘clean boost’ with the added benefit of a highly responsive EQ section. With 12dB of clean boost plus dual active parametric bands with 18dB of cut or boost, the Two Stroke is the perfect kit for fine tuning your lead sounds with unmatched levels of control. Traditional EQ pedals have long been a compromise, with players having to battle against the problem of excessive background ‘hiss’ common to most stompboxes of this type. However, the Two Stroke has been painstakingly engineered for superior low-noise performance, whilst its parametric nature makes for a much smoother, more musical response when compared to a graphic equaliser. No nasty spikes, just infinite command over your tone.

Perfect for making solos jump out of the mix and pushing the front end of your amp into overdrive, the Two Stroke’s straightforward layout also makes a practical tool to revoice pickups or remove unwanted frequencies in problematic venues. It also works great for electro-acoustic and bass guitars, making it a great addition to any musician’s setup.

Both the Two Stroke and the Amp Detonator can be powered by 9 or 12V and feature an internal charge pump, which doubles the operating voltage. This drastically increases the headroom, meaning they behave impeccably with other pedals in your chain.
