Orange Amplification are launching the limited edition, Glenn Hughes Signature Crush Bass 50 and its colour is deep purple, not orange! See Glenn talking about his Signature amp at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9Xqv36ZccA.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes, has been an Orange Ambassador for over a decade. For many years he was the bass player and vocalist with Deep Purple, who recently celebrated fifty years of definitive classic hard rock. Hughes is also known as the bassist and vocalist for Trapeze, Black Country Communion with Joe Bonamassa, California Breed and more recently The Dead Daisies.

The Crush Bass 50 compact combo, inspired by Orange’s flagship AD200 and OB1 bass amplifiers, perfectly blends some of the most defining elements of each. It has the essentials of a recording amp and delivers warm, clean bass tones, vintage growl with fat low end and blendable overdrive. Plus, the limited edition is finished in a distinctive tough purple textured vinyl with a silver coloured plaque ‘Glenn Hughes Limited Edition’.

Talking about the Crush Bass 50, Hughes said: ‘You can go in the studio, take that bass combo and make your album with something like that, it’s truly outstanding. It’s gritty, it’s punchy: sustain is so important and its certainly got all that.’ He added: ‘Orange all the way……..it’s the future, it’s the way to go, you heard it from me!’

‘We feel privileged to honour Glenn with this affordable limited edition bass combo. He has played such a big part in British music history,’ said Cliff Cooper, Orange Amps CEO and Founder. ‘To make a purple combo is a fitting way to pay a tribute to him.’

We are excited to auction a classic OR50 amp signed by Biffy Clyro to raise money for Cancer Research UK, the charity chosen by Orange Fans. Mike Vennart, Orange Ambassador and longtime session guitarist with the band, toured with this actual amp for four years. It is signed by him and founding band members Simon Neil, James Johnston and Ben Johnston.

Based on the legendary Pics only amp, the versatile OR50 featured a traditional single channel with a three stage gain section and HF Drive control. Its wide range of vintage tones and that classic British Crunch, pay homage to the Orange amps that helped to define the music of the seventies. According to MusicRadar it is: ‘No-nonsense, single-channel simplicity for rock and blues.’ See our technical director Ade Emsley talk about the OR50 in the video below:

Biffy Clyro, one of the biggest bands to come out of the UK, have enjoyed high profile tours with Muse, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age as well as being festival headliners in their own right. They have released eight, madly innovative albums, the most recent being 2020’s Celebration Of Endings with which they were planning to tour prior to lockdown. They hope to tour October 2021, once again filling venues with bone crunching riffs and rousing choruses and are scheduled to headline the 2022 Download festival.

Talking about the amp Mike Vennart said: ‘This was my amp, I toured it for about 4 years. It’s signed by Simon Neil, James Johnston and Ben Johnston of Biffy Clyro, and myself. It’s an absolute classic workhorse beast of an amp. Never let me down. Goddammit I miss it!!

All proceeds from the auction will go to Cancer Research UK, a charity that works tirelessly to help prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier, develop new treatments and optimise current treatments. “Learn The Orange Way”

Orange Learn, the educational arm of Orange Amplification, is excited to announce the expansion of its qualifications with the launch of Vocal Performance Graded Exams. Orange Amps has spent more than fifty years encouraging people to enjoy and participate in making music. Now, this includes vocalists.

The Orange Learn Vocal Performance syllabus and graded exams, developed in partnership with Online Music Exams, focuses entirely on the performance of songs, offering an additional progression route to traditional practical music exams with a carefully curated, contemporary list of suggested songs. Plus, it is more affordable in comparison to many of its competitors and its flexibility allows exams to be taken anywhere, at any time, and as many times as needed.

Rock songs featured in the syllabus include Stairway To Heaven Led Zeppelin, Sex On Fire Kings Of Leon, I Wish Stevie Wonder. Also featured are Little Lion Man Mumford & Sons, Chocolate by 1975 and Kiss by Prince. However, students can choose their own songs providing they fit the parameter guidelines found in the syllabus.

There are nine graded exams in total, debut through to Grade 8. Grades 1 to 8 are regulated qualifications and recognised by the RQF* and EQF* via the awarding body, The Learning Machine. Each exam requires a student to introduce and perform a selection of songs. Students receive feedback from a professional singer and a vocal
examiner, as well as a certificate of recognised qualification on passing.

‘Music education has always been close to my heart,’ said Cliff Cooper, Orange Amps CEO, ‘Orange Learn’s Vocal Performance syllabus and exams is about encouraging the uniqueness of each individual to shine, allowing a space for them to develop performance and communication skills and gain a recognised qualification.’

Students already learning to sing and looking for a vocal exam that is more cost effective and can be taken online, anytime or anywhere, can find out more here.

Orange Amplification take great delight in welcoming Jimmy Bowskill as a new Ambassador. The Canadians driving, lyrical guitar playing is the core of The Sheepdogs good time rock ‘n’ roll.

The multi-award winning Bowskill is considered one of the most talented players in the Roots and Blues scene today. Musically intense, his playing is full of sweet licks and chops whilst his voice is strong, soulful and expressive. The Sheepdogs, famously the only unsigned band to appear on the front of Rolling Stone, are skilled purveyors of vintage boogie rock.

When asked about his Orange gear, Bowskill said: “I have used my Orange AD30 as my main touring amplifier with the Sheepdogs for 5 years all over the world and have only had to change tubes. I love the clarity in the breakup of the AD30 circuit with the EL84’s and the smooth clean headroom as well. They are very reliable and excellent sounding and performing amplifiers. Best in the biz.”

The AD30 valve amp is the one stop shop for all shades of pure British chine and crunch with two different, independent channels voiced to complement and interact beautifully with each other.

Frank Sidoris by David Phillips

Orange Amplification is delighted to welcome new Ambassador Frank Sidoris, rhythm guitarist with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

Sidoris, who has been with Slash since 2012, has also played with Alice Cooper, the late great Lemmy Kilmister and Rush’s Alex Lifeson. More recently he has joined Wolf Van Halen’s, Eddie Van Halen’s son, new band Mammoth WVH.

He uses the Custom Shop 50 amp, known for its exquisite blues / rock tones providing an inspiring canvas for his rhythm work combining it with the cabinet main stay for touring artists, the classic PPC412.

Talking about being an Orange Ambassador Sidoris said: “It’s an honor to be associated with Orange, a company that has remained at the pinnacle of iconic tone and style for decades and continues to catch eyes and ears on stage and in the studio.”
