Orange Amplification is delighted to be sponsoring the 2015 AFROPUNK Festival, which will be held from the 21st to 23rd August in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park, also known as City Park. This year Orange will be providing the backline for both stages of the festival in New York and the festival in Atlanta on the 3rd and 4th October. The backline will consist of the new Rockerverb MKIII and Dual Dark guitar amps, PPC412 guitar cabs, plus the OB1 series of bass amps and OBC bass speaker cabs.

The AFROPUNK Festival, now in its eleventh year, is considered by the New York Times to be ‘the most multicultural festival in the US’. The event, known for being unconventional and open-minded, embraces alternative music by gifted people from all backgrounds. It is a platform for alternative and experimental music combined with visual artists with a mission based firmly on the punk principles, aesthetics and social non-conformity.

In total six bands from this year’s contest were chosen to play at the 2015 festival.

Orange Ambassadors at the AFROPUNK Festival include thrash metal band Suicidal Tendencies, recently back from a successful European tour, D’Angelo’s guitarist Isaiah Sharkey who is currently working with D’Angelo on a follow up album to the critically acclaimed Black Messiah and metalheads, Unlocking the Truth, previous winners of AFROPUNK Battle of the Bands.

“AFROPUNK celebrates unique talent – both big name and underground music.” said Charlie Cooper, Orange Amplification’ Marketing Director. “It’s a celebration of the global creativity and freedom of spirit found in today’s alternative music”.

Small Size, Big Sound

The OBC210 Mini is Orange Amplification’s smallest ‘conventional’, non-isobaric cabinet to date. As part of the successful OBC Series, used by the likes of Geddy Lee, Glenn Hughes and John McVie, the new 2×10 ensures the maximum punch from the smallest available space. It combines portability and solid construction with an assertiveness that belies its compact size.

This latest cabinet is constructed using birch plywood. This choice of material creates a well balanced and resonant enclosure adding presence to the overall sound. The OBC210 Mini comes complete with the Orange signature skid runners to acoustically bond the cabinet to the stage and improve bass response.

Housed within the cabinet is a pair of 10” Eminence Legend speakers. Tried and tested on the road in a number of other OBC cabinets, the two 200W drivers are a perfect fit for the new design. They deliver a rich low end with great mid-range clarity making sure the OBC210 Mini bears all the sonic hallmarks of a classic 2×10” cabinet.

The new cabinet also features two Speakon connectors that allow for daisy chaining to another cabinet of the same impedance for a total load of 4 Ohms. The new cabinet’s dimensions allow it to sit comfortably on top of the OBC410 or OBC115 to create some smart looking stacks that push some serious air!

The versatile array of tones produced by the OBC210 Mini includes pronounced and detailed mid ranges, highs with smooth and satisfying character and a surprising great low-end clout. Its warmth and sharp bass response come with a gravity and boldness that will shock even the fussiest bass players.

Taking place at IndigO2 in London on 15th June 2015, the Orange Amplification presents the Metal Hammer Golden Gods in association with World Of Warships once again has the fans at its core and brings them together with the artists, shoulder to shoulder, like no other event.

“Metal Hammer wouldn’t exist without its readers, and so it’s a particular point of pride for us that once a year we get to throw them a party they’ll never forget, and admission is free,” says Alexander Milas, Editor-in-Chief of Metal Hammer & TeamRock. “The HMS Hammer is the only metal party boat of its kind anywhere in the world, and we’re frankly trembling at the thought of this year’s lineup. All aboard!”
Metal Hammer are pleased to announce the final, headline, act for HMS Hammer. That act is the legendary Napalm Death.

“Napalm Death is independent of thought and independent of action,” offers frontman Barney Greenway of Napalm Death’s nomination for Best British Band in this year’s awards. “In some ways, competing against other bands for something nice and shiny undoubtedly gives a certain warm feeling inside, but we promise we won’t be filled with hate if somebody else scoops it. Thanks though for your considerations – you’re just too kind and we’re just (deliberately) too fucking noisy.”

“At Metal Hammer we love to throw a great party – the clue is in the name,” says Alexander Milas, Metal Hammer editor-in-chief. “From the flattening volume of Upon A Burning Body and Code Orange to the riffing might of Butcher Babies, this year’s HMS Hammer is going to fly. Add grindcore legends Napalm Death to the mix and you’ve got a recipe for absolute mayhem. Anchors Aweigh!”

Our host, Anthrax icon Scott Ian, had this to say: “It’s a good thing I just found my Killers T from 1982 because I can wear it while hosting the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards! See you all down there for a night of killer bands, killer booze and killer metal! Hey, there’s a theme developing here…”

Dave Mustaine Is Announced As The Golden God

For the first time in the history of The Metal Hammer Golden Gods an award recipient is being named upfront of the night. The Golden God Award (Sponsored By Orange Amplification) will be presented to the legendary Dave Mustaine.

Taking place at IndigO2 in London on 15th June 2015, the Orange Amplification presents the Metal Hammer Golden Gods in association with World Of Warships once again has the fans at its core and brings them together with the artists, shoulder to shoulder, like no other event.

Dave Mustaine is best known as the frontman and creative force behind Megadeth, the band who in June 2015 celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the release of their seminal album “Killing Is My Business..And Business Is Good!” (originally released on the 12th June 1985).

Formed in 1983, Megadeth are one of the true pioneers and innovators of metal music. The band have sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy® nominations and scoring five consecutive platinum albums—including 1992’s two-million-selling “Countdown to Extinction”. The band have released iconic albums such as “Peace Sells..But Who’s Buying?”, “Rust In Peace”, “Countdown to Extinction” and “Th1rt3en“. The list of classic songs penned by Megadeth is long and varied, including essential tracks such as “Killing Is My Business (And Business Is Good)!”, “Wake Up Dead”, “In My Darkest Hour”, “Holy Wars…The Punishment Is Due”, “Symphony Of Destruction”, “A Tout Le Monde”, and many many more…

Megadeth’s founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine is still a key creative force in the metal world. The band released their 14th studio album, “Super Collider, in 2013 through Mustaine’s own Tradecraft label. Megadeth have just finished recording a new studio album – due for release later in 2015.

The term is oft overused, but Dave Mustaine is a bona fide LEGEND and the Metal Hammer Golden Gods are hugely honoured to have him accept the Golden God Award in 2015.

“I am truly humbled to receive this award, and to be recognized by your peers for your accomplishments, is almost as gratifying as not being recognized by the police for your accomplices.” – Dave Mustaine

The Metal Hammer Golden God awards are a 21-gun salute to all that is great in our world” says Alexander Milas, Metal Hammer editor-in-chief. “Dave Mustaine is nothing less than the living embodiment of dedication to the craft, and it’s an absolute honour to celebrate 30 years of Megadeth’s earth-shaking debut with one of metal’s greatest guitar heroes.”

Following thousands of customer requests, Orange Amplification is excited to announce their first foray into the pedal market since the mid 70s, with the introduction of the Orange Bax Bangeetar Guitar Pre-EQ. Handmade in the Orange Custom Shop, England, this game changing pedal is in a class of its own. Available in two finishes, black or white, this latest offering functions as a traditional stompbox, a standalone preamp, and a direct recording tool, meaning the possibilities are virtually limitless.

The Bax Bangeetar boasts a huge dynamic range, producing classic Orange crunch and rich vintage overdrive at moderate gain settings. Increasing the drive level yields a wealth of outrageous modern tones, with genuinely insane amounts of distortion on offer. Crucially, even at extreme settings, the Bax Bangeetar never loses definition. For live use, the on-board clean Boost function adds an extra 5dB for solos.

More impressively, with none of the back-to-back diode circuitry commonly found in drive pedals, the Bax Bangeetar feels and behaves just like an Orange amp, delivering natural breakup – and a serious kick – without any hint of stifling compression.

Beyond its unique and flexible gain structure, however, the Bax Bangeetar’s extensive tone tweaking capabilities really set it apart. The Baxandall EQ and full parametric mid controls allow for complete command over a broad frequency range, enabling players to sculpt their sound to suit any style. With controls for Q, centre frequency and cut/boost, the midrange response is literally infinite, from subtle peaks to broad ‘scoops’. Even remove problem frequencies inherent in certain guitar and amps altogether!

True to form, Orange has also bucked the ‘true bypass’ trend and developed its own ultra-transparent buffered bypass. This supremely linear circuit ensures absolutely no loss of signal integrity, even with long cable runs or when driving large pedal boards. Critical to the bypass (and the overall design) is the internal charge pump. This doubles the pedal’s voltage for more clarity, more clean headroom and more output, whilst always maintaining the instrument’s character.

The Bax Bangeetar also features a second ‘CabSim’ output which recreates the sound and response of Orange’s 40th Anniversary PPC412 cabinet loaded with Celestion G12H 30 speakers. Combined with the pedal’s far-reaching tone shaping options, the CabSim makes this preamp a perfect aid for direct recording.

Whether used at home, on stage or in the studio, with its enormous sonic capabilities, precise EQ and all-round flexibility, the Bax Bangeetar is one of the most versatile pedals ever created. Visit the Orange Amplification booth C45 Hall 4.0 at Musikmesse 2015 to see the new Custom Shop Bax Bangeetar guitar pedal and other new products.
